The biomarkers a standard blood panel leaves out — ApoB, Lp(a), fasting insulin, inflammatory and metabolic markers — and what each one changes.
Beyond a standard panel
A standard annual blood panel can miss the early physiology that matters for prevention. Perennial uses selected advanced biomarkers when they can clarify risk or change a plan. The emphasis is selection and interpretation, not ordering the longest possible list. A result should answer a practical question: what is happening, what does it mean for this patient, and what should change next?
Examples of useful markers
ApoB counts the number of atherogenic particles rather than only the cholesterol inside them. Lipoprotein(a) is an inherited risk marker that may be invisible on a standard lipid panel. Fasting insulin can rise years before glucose changes. Inflammatory, kidney, liver, hormone, micronutrient, and metabolic markers can add context when they are tied to a decision.
How interpretation works
Numbers are reviewed against history, medications, family risk, symptoms, training, nutrition, sleep, body composition, and the patient’s priorities. The same abnormal result can mean different things in different people. The value of the panel is the physician interpretation: deciding what is signal, what is noise, what should be repeated, and what requires action.
Boundaries
Labs are not a replacement for a physician visit, exam, or urgent care. Some findings require confirmation, outside testing, or referral. The Baseline Assessment is designed to connect the lab strategy to a written plan rather than leave patients with disconnected numbers.
How to use the result
The most useful lab panel is the one that leads to a clear next step. Some results call for lifestyle changes and repeat measurement. Others call for medication discussion, specialist input, or a closer look at family history and symptoms. Perennial reviews the panel as part of an ongoing clinical relationship so the interpretation is not separated from the patient who generated the data.
